Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Fluency collects, why we use it, which services help us operate the app, and the controls available to you.
Effective September 9, 2026

The short version: we use your data to provide and improve your language-learning experience. We do not sell your personal information. You can clear learning history or delete your account from the app.

1. Information we collect

Account and profile information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, authentication information, and any optional profile details you choose to add, such as a display name or profile image. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are not visible to Fluency.

Learning activity and content

We process saved words and phrases, language preferences, practice progress, search and lesson history, conversation content, feedback, and other content you submit so the app can provide personalized practice.

Voice and audio

When you use speaking features, the app records or streams the audio you choose to submit for transcription, pronunciation feedback, or conversation features. Microphone access is used only after you grant permission and activate a voice feature.

Device, diagnostic, and website information

We may collect device and app version, language and time-zone settings, request logs, security events, crash or error details, and general usage events. Our website stores a random visitor identifier, test assignment, referral information, and campaign parameters in local storage to understand which product explanations are useful. If you join early access, we also collect your email address and selected learning goal.

2. How we use information

  • Provide accounts, authentication, account recovery, and two-step verification.
  • Deliver lessons, translations, speech, saved content, progress, and personalization.
  • Send verification, security, support, and requested product emails.
  • Detect abuse, protect accounts, troubleshoot errors, and maintain the service.
  • Measure and improve product usability, reliability, and learning features.
  • Meet legal obligations and enforce our terms.

3. Service providers

We use vendors to operate Fluency. They process information for us under their own security and privacy commitments:

  • Supabase for authentication, databases, storage, and backend functions.
  • Resend for account verification and other transactional email delivery.
  • OpenAI for language, transcription, and conversational AI features.
  • Amazon Web Services for speech synthesis and related infrastructure.
  • Apple or Google when you choose a platform sign-in or platform service.
  • Google Mobile Ads only in app versions or regions where advertising is enabled, subject to the consent choices presented there.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect people or the service, or as part of a business transaction with appropriate safeguards.

4. Retention and deletion

We keep account and learning data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. You can clear supported learning history separately or delete your account and associated personal data from Account settings. Some limited records may remain temporarily in backups, security logs, or where retention is required by law.

Early-access requests are kept until they are fulfilled, you unsubscribe, or they are no longer needed for the program.

5. Security and international processing

We use access controls, encryption in transit, protected credential storage, account isolation, and monitoring appropriate to the service. No system can guarantee absolute security. Our providers may process information in countries other than your own, with safeguards required by applicable law.

6. Your choices and rights

You can update profile information, reset your password, enable or remove two-step verification, clear history, and delete your account in the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, object to, or delete personal information.

To make a privacy request, use our support page. We may need to verify that the request relates to your account.

7. Children

Fluency is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A higher minimum age may apply where local law requires it.

8. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post the updated version here and revise the effective date. For privacy questions or requests, contact us through the Fluency support page.
